Multiplayer AR racing now available in Lightstream Racer
Latest iOS update gives us a free two-player AR track experience
That iOS 12 update your iPhone and iPad enjoyed this week? You might not realise it pushed ARKit 2 your way. And that means improved AR experience. One game is taking advantage of that straight away. Lightstream Racer, the free 3D racing game from Virtual Arts, now features multiplayer racing in augmented reality! Here, check this out:
Nizar Romdan, boss at developer Virtual Arts, told us: "We used ARKit 2 on iOS 12 to enable players sharing an AR experience in the same location using two different devices. In other words, both players see the same virtual track through their iPhones or iPads synchronised thanks to ARKit 2."
Following the iOS 12 roll-out, Lightstream Racer with this latest update is free in the app store. And with it, you can now meet up in the same space and race your friends in a shared high-speed sci-fi experience.
The game, described by one user as the "best use I’ve seen so far of AR on mobile… like a pocket Scalextric of the future", launched in April and has since hit more than 100,000 downloads.
Grab Lightstream Racer from the Apple store. Inside it you'll also find the AR Showroom and iMessage stickers, plus you can now also race in non-Augmented Reality mode in outer space.
